How to Connect Youview Box to Wifi Wirelessly

These days, we expect wireless internet as standard in our new products. A Youview box is one of those rare pieces of technology that does not support it. So how can we connect it to wifi wirelessly?

Youview is a great on-demand box that enables the user to view a wide variety of content for a reasonable price. It is thought that the decision to make Youview boxes with no wireless internet capability was made to keep costs down. This is understandable, but a little inconvenient for those of us that don’t want to have cables all over the place. Fortunately, there are solutions to this problem. In this article, we will run you through how you can connect your Youview box to Wifi wirelessly.

Connect to the internet (wired)

Connect to the wired internet

The first thing we’re going to need to do is to connect the Youview box to the internet. The easiest way to do this is of course with a wired connection. In order to do this, simply use an ethernet cable to connect the device to your router, as shown in the picture above.

But what if you want to connect it wirelessly? Well, seeing as that’s likely the reason you’re reading this article, let’s take a look at a couple of ways we can connect the Youview wirelessly.

Connect to the internet (wireless)

Because there is no straightforward way for you to connect your Youview box to the internet without using a wired connection, we’ll have to look at alternatives. The first of which is:

Powerline Adaptors

Powerline Adaptors

A powerline adaptor is a little plug-in device that uses your home’s electrical wiring to send wifi to every room of your house. This is a relatively quick and simple way of achieving our goal of connecting the Youview box to the wifi and requires very little technical knowledge.

  • Plug one powerline adaptor into the wall socket
  • Connect the powerline adaptor to the Youview box with an ethernet cable
  • Turn the adaptor on. If a green light shows, it is working.
  • Using a second powerline adaptor, take another ethernet cable and use it to connect the powerline adaptor and the wifi router.
  • Again, you should see a green light.
  • You can now use the wifi on your Youview box

Wifi Adapters and Repeaters

Wifi Adapters and Repeaters

Another method of connecting your Youview box to the wifi is to use a wifi adaptor or repeater. Wifi adaptors transmit your broadband signal across your home. The main draw is that the adapter will have an ethernet cable socket that we can use to connect to your Youview box.

To use a Wifi adaptor correctly with your Youview box, follow the steps below.

  • Plug your Wifi adaptor into a wall socket. Make sure it is somewhere near your Youview box.
  • Connect the Wifi adaptor to your Wifi network.
  • Using an ethernet cable, connect the Wifi adaptor to your Youview box.
  • That’s it!

What Should I Do If My YouView Box Doesn’t Connect to the Internet?

Technology is a fantastic thing, but it goes without saying that it can sometimes cause problems.

Sometimes your YouView box may have problems connecting to the internet. These errors are bound to happen every once in a while!

If your YouView box isn’t connecting to the internet, you should first check your internet connection so see if it’s working on other devices.

If the internet connection is fine, then it could be an issue with the ethernet cables or your Wifi adapter. Look for the maintenance mode option on your YouView device to make sure that it has been connected to the internet.

Sometimes the issue may be with the box itself. In this case, you should do a little bit of troubleshooting to see what the exact issue is.

In most cases though, you can usually solve your problems by resetting the YouView device. Please be aware, however, that you will lose your recorded programs when you reset your YouView device.

Resetting your YouView device is rather simple. First, click on the menu button on your box. Then, go onto the options setting on the menu. You will then need to look for the Information and Reset option, and choose factory reset.

This will wipe your box and put it back to its original factory settings.

Once you have done this, you will see a confirmation notification on the screen, where you will then need to input the numbers that come up to confirm that you wish to reset the box to factory settings.

The YouView box will then proceed to reset. It shouldn’t take very long to do.

The Bottom Line

Now you’ve seen how easy it is to connect your Youview box to the wireless network, you should be up and running in no time. If you find you’re having issues getting the two devices to connect, try resetting them before trying again.

Not only is it more preferable to use your Youview box this way to get uninterrupted streaming, but it is also super easy and barely an inconvenience. That being said, we do hope the future models will be shipped with built-in Wifi.
