No Sound On LG Smart TV: How to Fix

LG is a big name in the TV industry, selling millions of units every year. LG-branded TVs are well-known for beautiful OLED displays and a comprehensive smart TV operating system called WebOS. But there is an exception to everything, and LG TVs are no different. 

While your LG TVs work fine most of the time, there are times when they do not. The One that’s even more common than the LG TV error codes issue lies in its sound system. Indeed, if your LG TV has no sound, you are not alone. 

There are many reasons why your LG TV has no sound, from outdated software to problematic apps to hardware errors. Do not worry; we have all the possible fixes for the LG TV with no sound issue in the section below. 

How to Fix LG TV No Sound Issue

Method 1: Check Your HDMI Cable

The one common reason for the sound issue on your LG TV is that your HDMI cable may be loose or damaged. If you do not plug in the HDMI cable properly, your TV fails to transmit sound. To fix it, 

  • Unplug the HDMI cable from the TV and plug it back in. 
  • Now, turn on your TV to see if the problem is fixed.

If the problem persists, check if your HDMI cable is faulty or damaged. You can test if your HDMI cable still works by connecting it to another device. If it does not work, then it’s broken, and you should buy a new one. 

Method 2: Wrong Settings

If the above solution does not work, we suggest you check your LG’s settings. The wrong settings can cause sound issues on your TV or you have accidentally muted the sound on your TV. To fix it, head to Settings > Sound and check if something goes wrong. 

If the audio is off when you connect your TV to a laptop, follow our steps below to fix it.

On a Windows computer

  1. Open Control Panel on your computer.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click on Sound Settings and click the Playback settings.

On a Mac

  1. Go to System Preferences.
  2. Select Sound preferences.
  3. Select the Sound Output and select your LG TV from the list.

Method 3: Reset Audio Settings

If nothing works, the next step is to reset your TV’s audio settings. Doing so will reset all of your TV’s audio settings back to the default settings, and you can set up the whole thing from scratch. Here are the steps;

Step 1: Press the Mute button on the remote three times and you should see a popup screen.

Step 2: Now press Confirm to reset the audio settings. 

Method 4: Update the Software

If resetting the audio settings does not help, try updating the software. Outdated software may result in some sound issues. Here is how to do it.

Step 1: Press the menu button on the remote and select Settings.

Step 2: Scroll down until you see the Others option and click on it.

Step 3: Now click on the Software Update and check if there are any available updates. 

A new software update should remove bugs and glitches, so make sure you are up to date. 

Method 5: Reset to Default Factory Settings

If updating the software does not work, try performing a complete factory reset. Following this method, your TV’s settings will be reset to factory settings. This means that you can set up your TV as new. Here are the steps;

Step 1: Press the Home button on your remote and then press the cog icon at the top right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Select General and hit Reset to initial Settings.

Note that the steps may differ depending on the LG TV model. Once it’s done, you will go through an initial setup. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. 

Method 6: Make Sure You Use the Correct Cable

If the problem persists even after factory resetting your TV, the issue might not be with your software. We suggest you check your cable and make sure you use the right one. In fact, you need to ensure that you do not use an “S” video cable instead of an HDMI cable. An S video cable is designed to transmit visual information only

If that does not help, try switching to an external speaker system. You can try plugging your TV into a sound bar or some other speakers. Your TV’s built-in speakers may be damaged or muted if the sound is back.  

Method 7: LG Support

If none of the above methods works, try contacting LG Support. If your TV is now under warranty, you won’t be charged.
