The Amazon Fire Stick is a great piece of gear that allows you to watch TV shows and movies and all you need is the Amazon dongle in your HDMI port and the Amazon Fire Stick remote. The problem is, the Amazon Fire Stick remote is rather small which makes it rather easy to lose.
The Amazon Fire Stick can also get damaged easily, for example, you may sit on it accidentally or spill water on it. If you have a damaged Amazon Fire Stick remote or you’ve lost it, fear not, in this guide we’ll give you the instructions to set up your Amazon Fire Stick without needing the remote.
Set up Your Amazon Fire Stick
The first thing you’ll need to do is unbox and set up your Amazon Fire Stick. In the box, there will be the stick, the power adapter, (hopefully) a remote and the HDMI cord. You’ll need to attach the HDMI cord to your Fire Stick and then your power cord.
Plug your Fire Stick into an available HDMI port in the back of your TV.
Make sure the power cord is attached to the mains and the other end of the cord is attached to your Fire Stick.
You’ll then need to navigate to the right AV channel on your smart TV. Once you’re selected the Amazon Fire Stick TV channel you’ll be prompted to use your Amazon Fire Stick remote to activate your Fire Stick.
If you don’t have a remote for whatever reason, follow the steps below.
How To Set Up Amazon Fire Stick With The Fire Remote App
If you don’t have your Amazon Fire TV remote or it’s broken, you can use the Amazon TV app as a virtual remote on your smartphone or tablet. It’s free to download and you’ll be able to use it just like you would a physical remote.
Here’s how to download it;
- Go to the Play Store or App Store.
- Search for the Amazon Fire TV app.
- Download it.
- Make sure you’ve turned on your WI-FI and then open your app.
- Select your TV from the app menu.
- Link Your Amazon Account
Once you’ve selected your TV, you’ll then need to sign in to your Amazon account. If you don’t have one, you’ll have the option of creating a new account.
Once you’re all set up, you will receive a 4-digit code on your TV. Enter this code into your app and you’ll be connected via the app. Next, select your language and enter all the basic settings you’d like to save.
Amazon will then ask you to choose a variety of apps to download so they can suggest more of your interests. Once you’ve selected some sports and entertainment apps and they’ve been downloaded, you can then start to use your Amazon Fire Stick with your virtual remote.
How To Set Up Amazon Fire Stick With Alexa
Amazon’s Alexa isn’t just a great way to listen to music around your home, it’s also a device that can control other Amazon devices around your home. If you don’t have your Amazon Fire Stick TV remote, you can use Alexa to control your Fire Stick by using your voice. You can command your Fire Stick to play different shows, for example.
Here’s how to do it;
- Connect your Alexa to your WI-FI network
- Download the Alexa app on a device of your choice
- Go to Settings > TV and Video
- Select Fire TV
- Follow the onscreen instructions and your Fire Stick will be linked with your Alexa
You can then instruct Alexa to do very specific things like;
“Alexa, rewind 10 seconds”
“Alexa, play Stranger Things”
“Alexa, turn down the volume on Fire Stick”
- Set Up Your Fire Stick With A Universal Remote
Instead of using software to control and set up your Amazon Fire Stick, you can always use some old hardware. If you have got a universal remote laying around, why not try using it for your Amazon Fire Stick?
Universal remotes are great because just like the virtual app controller, they use infra-red to control your TV. All you need to do is make sure your AV is on the right channel. For example, if you’ve plugged your Fire Stick in your HDMI 1 port, use your TV remote to go to that channel. Then all you need to do is use your universal remote to control your Fire Stick.
Buy A New Amazon Fire Stick Remote
If the options above fail or are not available then you may just have to bite the bullet and go ahead and buy a new Amazon Fire Stick remote. You can buy these quite cheap online. For example, you can buy a new remote on Amazon for under £17.
